Villains

Everyone loves a good villain. It doesn't always have to be some monstrous character, or an evil mastermind, but simply someone who believes what they're doing is right and will usually carry that out to the anguish of the good guys.

One of the main characters that spring to mind when I think of a villain is Hayley Birch from American Differences. While she didn't have some grand moment where she really got to shine, she instead had an anti-climatic demise. She was simply forgotten about. Now if you contrast this with the characters in some other online stories, there's this big scene where they find out that the central couple are gay...etc, but not in American Differences. Hayley was simply not worth the effort, and I didn't want to give her the privilege of knowing about the two boys.

In A Vulcan's Love, the central 'baddies' were of course the members of The Romulan Terrorist Cell. Due to how I wrote the story, wanting to keep it strongly focused on the 1st person, we never got to really see the inner workings of the Cell. Neither did we get to know a central antagonist. Again, this wasn't the sole focus of the story, which was the relationship between Kai & T'Luk, so the Cell took a bit of a back seat there.

In this year's stories, namely Kieran and Virtue, both will feature some new and interesting villains. Wanting to keep things as realistic as possible, the baddies in Kieran would be more like people you'd know in everyday life. They're not out there to take over the world, but they are there to shake up things in the neighbourhood.

Virtue is very different in this regard to that of A Vulcan's Love. We'll be getting an intimate view of the primary/secondary antagonists as the story progresses. More than that, they aren't your casual bad-girl or guy bent on revenge, or some person who stands around following orders without exhibiting their own personality. I'm very pleased with the characters I've created for that story and I'm sure you'll come to love (hate :P) them.
