The future of American Differences

April 26, 2010

Now that I’ve left you all hanging after the last chapter, you’re probably wondering what the hell is going to happen next and when! So without dragging it on longer, what’s next for this series?

As I’ve mentioned here many times before, there will be a sequel. That’s official and it’s going to happen. Now, there will be some differences between this and AD. For one thing it will not be told from Matt’s point of view, it will instead be told from Adam’s point of view.

The first chapter will immediately continue from the last scene in AD, however, this will not simply be a continuation of the series. As we will be following Adam, we will inherently see his life from his point of view. Sure we’ll see Matt & Jamie from time to time, and Connor will be around quite a bit too, but for the most part, we will see his life and meet his friends.

So what is the sequel going to be like? It’s clear, from what occurred, that Adam is definitely a confused person. Posting notes in someone’s locker, telling them that you’d be a better boyfriend, is wrong on quite a few levels. If we then couple this with his age (13), then he’s clearly a mature boy in some respects, but immature in others.

So when will we see this sequel? In short: Christmas 2010. In detail: Firstly I have quite a few other writing projects planned for this year, (3 in fact, that I’ll detail more in a post later this week,) that I’d like to get done first.

And secondly, I want to take a break from AD. I love the series. Don’t get me wrong, I’d write the sequel now, but for what I want to do, and how I envision the piece, I don’t want to rush it out hurriedly. I am very much in an AD mindset, and while that’ll be needed in the sequel, I need to approach things from a different perspective. Taking a break, giving myself time to think about and plan this would result in a much better story.

So that’s an update on where things are heading with American Differences. Once again I really hope you enjoyed the final chapter, and I hope you’ll enjoy the sequel later this year.

Take care and have a great week,

Emulated

Well I guess all good things have to come to an end, but I’ll really miss this story. Been following it for months and it’s certainly at the top end of the highschool story section. Love the way you spent time on character development, not making the mistake of immediately progressing to sex. It made the story much more real, for me at least. Even in the final chapter, a less accomplished writer may have had Matt coming out to his cousin and the rest of his family at the wedding, but life isn’t always that easy, and I think that again this made the story real.Sorry that it’s finished but looking forward to the sequel
